Music Contractors are responsible for hiring the musicians
in a Broadway pit.
There have only been two female music contractors in the history of Broadway — and there’s never been a woman of color.
THE LACK OF FEMALE BIPOC CONTRACTORS CONTRIBUTES TO A SYSTEMIC ABSENCE OF FEMALE BIPOC PIT MUSICIANS.
The Broadway Sinfonietta aims to fix with the creation of an all women-identifying, majority women-of-color orchestra which will both showcase the excellence of the individual artists involved, and collaborate with productions, galas, and benefits that normally feature mostly white male bands and orchestras.
