BY ELIZABETH ADDISON
She NYC Arts is a femme-led nonprofit organization fighting for gender equity in the theater industry and the entertainment industry at large.
We support the creation and production of meaningful and powerful works by writers, composers, producers, and artists from marginalized gender groups, including cis women and trans and non-binary people. We promote the inclusion of theatrical works by artists of marginalized genders into the mainstream, ensuring that stories from historically ignored perspectives get the platform they deserve.
We know that producing entertainment by marginalized artists is imperative to creating a more equitable world — it changes perspectives, challenges the status quo, and highlights stories that have been missing from the history books.
And in 2026, we will produce a full-length off-Broadway run of Chasing Grace, a new musical about Black and Brown women in addiction recovery, by writer and composer Elizabeth Addison.

ABOUT CHASING GRACE
Inspired by Addison’s time in treatment and chasing her own Broadway dreams, Chasing Grace is an immersive, meta-musical experience taking place in the mind and memory of both The Writer and Grace, her main character. The musical explores identity, addiction, recovery, trauma, the weaponization of our dreams, and how learning to face your past and love yourself can help you rewrite your narrative and reclaim your dreams.

EXPANDING UPON CHASING GRACE’S THEMES TO SUPPORT THOSE IN ADDICTION RECOVERY
To accompany the off-Broadway production of the show, we will bring trauma-informed art therapy workshops to recovery centers throughout NYC.
The sessions will be led by Addison, a certified recovery coach working with hospital systems in Boston to develop art therapy workshops specifically for Black & Brown women, and consists of a 2-4 hour trauma-informed Intro to Embodied Songwriting workshop. The workshop is founded on recovery coach principles, narrative therapy, music therapy, and drama therapy and relies heavily on both the coach and peer support. The workshops offer a way to use the arts to heal oneself, build community, and find a sense of meaning and purpose in experiences that have been incredibly painful and challenging. Each workshop results in original music written by those who participate in the session. The music will then be incorporated into the off-Broadway production.
Following the workshops, participants will be invited for a special performance of CHASING GRACE off-Broadway where they will have the opportunity to see their work performed live.
