SHE NYC ARTS

PRESENTS

AN OFF-BROADWAY RUN OF TWO PLAYS IN REP

THE TRUE STORY OF FIVE BLACK NURSES SERVING THE COUNTRY THAT WOULDN’T SERVE THEM

In the aftermath of Pearl Harbor, Mayvee, Georgia, Elinor, Marjorie, and Thelma enlist to serve their country and are sent to Fort Huachuca, an army base camp in Arizona.

As Black nurses, they’re in charge of treating enemy prisoners of war. They quickly learn the rules of the camp: stay segregated from the white soldiers, always treat the white soldiers first, and remember: we’re all on the same team, fighting for the same country.

Universal and real, this story tackles issues that are still relevant today: racism and sexism. Inspired by the true story of a group of incredible women, an inside look at survival in the army in the 1940s for those who were treated as less-than even when they were fighting for our country.

THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS

IS BEING PUT TO THE TEST

This deeply dark and acerbically funny mystery follows Reaver, a bone-tired Black coroner, as he investigates a city being torn apart by a gruesome plague – one that causes sleeplessness and spontaneous, explosive death.

Unreliably narrated, and accompanied by original music by The Mombs, BLOODSHOT is an alluring, distorted romp through a familiar city on the brink of a very human meltdown.

Find out who goes BLOODSHOT… and who’s unlucky enough to make it out alive.

OCTOBER

October performances Tuesday to Saturday at 7:30, Saturday and Sunday at 2pm.

Fort Huachuca by Ailema Sousa (from the 2021 SheLA Theater Festival) and Bloodshot by Elinor T Vanderburg (SheNYC Theater Festival Alumni Playwright of The Human Incubator, 2017 and Dancing Girl, 2019) will run in a repertory production this fall, transporting us from the world of a WWII Army Base to a nightmarish, alternate-universe New York City.

The mission of SheNYC Arts is to disrupt the “pipeline issue” that keeps marginalized artists off big stages, so it’s a dream come true to be able to bring these two full productions to an off-Broadway run together.

“BLOODSHOT is going to grab the audience by the throat and will not let go....[FORT HUACHUCA's] impact lies in the small, important, gripping details.”
